CB Hounslow v AFC Croydon Athletic result 1-0
After last week’s disappointing loose to Eversley & California. Changes were made to the starting line-up for the visit from Croydon.
Unfortunately, once again the 1st team where slow out the blocks, giving Croydon a couple of chances in the first 10 minutes, which Croydon just failed to put one away with an open goal gapping.
Attacking wise the 1st team where causing all sorts of problems for Croydon with Craig & Justin pushing forward from the full back positions. New boy Olu having his debut was a major handful. Once the 1st team settled down after about 15 minutes the passing and movement was so sharp with Baker, Jerome and Ben taking charge of the midfield the chances that CB where now creating got steadily more and more. On the 22nd minute after some fabulous football Olu scored the only goal of the game.
The half ended at 1-0 but should have been 4-2 to CB, but for poor finishing by both sides.
The 2nd half didn’t really excite, end to end stuff with both teams having chances and once again the better chances falling to CB. On another day we could have lost because of missed chances.
Croydon made the first knee jerk reaction by making changes, putting on their subs and pushed as backwards. Some outstanding defending from the back 6, but especially Stirling saw us ride out a 10 minute onslaught. We made 2 quick changes, putting Owen and Daniel which enabled us to push Croydon back again. In this half again Olu should have put a couple in the net.
The game was drawing to an end, but with 2 minutes to go Croydon won a free kick on the edge of the box. A brilliantly struck free kick which was heading in the corner of the goal was deserved of a brilliant save from Samson.
The game petered out and the 1st team won their first home game of the season.
