League Challenge Cup so the tension was high & the journey was long

Southern Youth Football League

League Challenge Cup

Monday 26th October 2015

19:45 KO

Fleet Spurs (0) v/s (3) CB Hounslow United U18s Elite
Cup action today, away to Fleet in the first round of the Challenge Cup so the tension was high & the journey was long.

The boys, having had some excellent results recently knew the coaching staff & I want to keep the momentum with us & the hard work from the players to translate into each and every game that we play.

We started off slow in getting the playing strategy right, no one doing their jobs as consistent as we would like nor working hard enough off the ball, although we still had the run of play, however, LONG BALLS which I hate with a passion, far too many long balls over the top, not recognising that Fleet had several players 8’ 4, it was not getting over them & coming straight back at us, it was NOT working; the football was decent in spells but quite a few decision making mistakes gave us a hard task moving forwards. We started to get ourselves together & Fleet was never going to make it easier, hard tackles & getting more & more physical. We had a few half chances until Levi popped up with a decent finish just inside Fleets box putting the ball securely into the right hand side of the goal, 1-0 CB, that’s how the first half finished.

Half Time 0- 1 CB

Second half, after a quick chat with the boys making sure they knew I was not happy with the last 45 minutes, they responded well, soaking up the Fleet advances from KO, we started to press high & deliver some great balls through for the wingers & with all substitutes on this half (Conor 4 Jake, Oliver 4 Ben, John 4 Scott & Elisard 4 Brandon) CB players had the lion share of possession, we started driving forwards & pushing the ball to Elisard CF & the wingers, who had a couple of decent chances to make it two goals up with Elisard losing the ball in the trees about 100 yards behind the goal ….LOL…. 15 minutes later, our midfield boss, Levi received the ball in the centre just inside Fleets half, with a fantastic timed pass & the execution out wide to Antwayne , an absolute peach of a ball wide for Antwayne to drive past his man pinging a super cross into the box to find Elisard, who finished very well, making it 0 – 2 CB Hounslow; a fantastic team goal. With about 15 to go we was awarded & corner which we didn’t listen to instructions supposed to be an “in swinging corner” taken by Levi, this ended up a corner from Conor going front post finding the excellent Tommy O’Neil (right back), who flew past his man on the front post just outside the 6 yard box & directed his header into the left hand top corner of the goal 0 – 3 to CB a fine header Mr O’Neil (a first team regular) . Game ended Fleet 0 CB Hounslow 3 – Bring on the second round.

With Antwayne, Ben, Tommy, Dunnell, Elisard & Dylan ALL more & more involved with first team football, this is a show of how well the U18s elite development programme is working in conjunction with the clubs pathway system for players to senior football; it’s the way forwards for any grass roots football clubs.

I have to say, I Love watching these boys every week, a great team, very good players & all very respectful – Love That.

Well done CB Hounslow U18s Elite players, you are a team that no one will want to play due to your Desire, Playing quickly & direct way in which we play our exciting football.

MOTM: Tommy O’Neil – a truly sensational defender, the boys keep saying to anyone “you will never get past Tommy” (a gem of a man)
