This was our 4th game of the season. Having lost two of our previous outings and winning only one we were looking to kick on and make a statement of intent.
We lost a very close game last week and the gaffa made a couple of changes to see if we could strengthen in certain areas.
Wayne came in for an absent Jerome (big boots to fill), Rui returned in goal, Kevin got his 1st start of the season for Junior and Hesham returned after a long absence.
CB prepared well for the game and by contrast Warlingham were held up and turned up 20 minutes before kick-off. You would have thought the opposite was true as CB started very lethargically and Warlingham hit the ground running.
Warlingham’s passing was sharp and precise and had a few chances to score but lacked the killer instinct in front of goal. Eventually the centre forward put on the after-burners he cruised past Leon and finish with style, low and hard past Rui0-1.
The CB lads were a bit rattled and really had no answer to Warlingham’s excellent play, and inevitably they breached our defence for a second time. Their midfield player had excellent run and shot which left Rui with no chance halftime 0-2.
After a few choice, but unrepeatable words from the boss at half time, CB came out with a totally different attitude. We made a change early in the second half which saw Buzz come on for a struggling Wayne and we started to dominate. Ryan got forward for a set piece and after Warlingham failed to clear, the ball dropped for him to slot home from close range 1-2.
Straight from their kick-off Bart won the ball back and attacked their goal. He shot near post which the keeper repelled and the ball dropped to Kevin who stuck it goal bound again only for the keeper to save for the second time, but the ball dropped straight back into Kevin’s path and he cooly slotted in to equalise 2-2.
We now had half an hour to play and CB put Warlingham to the sword, attack after attack resulted in frustration as we missed chance after chance, and right at the death Junior had a glaring chance to wrap it up, but he skied his shot when it was easier to slot home. Overall pleased not to lose but disappointed not to take all three points.
No overall man of the match but Buzz, Hesham and their keeper had decent games
Final score 2-2.
